SAMURAI’ve in Shinjuku offers first-hand experience of “tate,” or the art of Japanese stage fighting, which is widely featured in samurai dramas, stage and film.  The 70-minute “Samurai Experience” is popular with international tourists, and recommended for first timers. The program involves dressing up and practicing the basics of sword handling, before moving on to more complicated movements. At the end of the session, brave yourself for a mock battle with the instructors. Regular classes are held in groups. Private lessons are also offered. Or join a class that lets participants watch a sword fighting performance by professional actors. Those looking for more serious training can join "tate" lessons held every Saturday. Courses are available for all levels of enthusiasts, from casual to advanced learners.
